Sci Guys is a podcast all about the weird and unbelievable ways that scientists learn about the world around us.
Each week, Corry (@notcorry) tells the story of a particularly strange scientific study while his friends Jamp (@jampkin) and Luke (@LukeCutforth) do their best to derail the conversation with questions, jokes, and whatever nonsense they can think of.

32:45 that's so me lol. I'm autistic and i have incredibly high empathy, even for inanimate objects, especially if i develop some sort of emotional connection to it (like my stuffed animals, a pillow that i really like, a blanket or whatever, and even food sometimes (although more so for the animals that make some foods, which is why I'm gradually quitting all meats)
I have a feeling most of the people in here claiming to be detransitioners in here aren’t actually detransitioners. Not saying all but detransitioners are already extremely rare in a population that’s already extremely rare and it’s very unlikely all of them happen to be in this comment section. When most detransitioners I’ve met aren’t anti trans and actually advocate for trans rights despite it not working for them Btw since people keep saying he didn’t show his data here it is --> pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33794108/
Remember when cdc said smoking cigarettes was good for your health? Lol
I think climate change protests that block roads are stupid because it's dangerous AND burns extra gas for no reason. Then there is the additional side effect of everyone hating you aswell...
What would you recommend instead?
The definition of sex is, in fact, based on gamete type : large, resource rich gametes for females and smaller more mobile gametes for males. The fact that some people can not produce gametes does not negate this, as it is not about the actual physical production of eggs/sperm but rather the developmental pathway of the individual. Regardless of the cause of infertility, the person was genetically determined to produce only one type of gametes. This is not invalidated by their inability to produce gametes. Of course, this does not determine gender or how male, female, or non binary a person feels.
Millenials, weve been on the internet since elementary school. Weve been culturally influenced by the internet the same way you have been for the past decade.
Gen Z includes people born between 1997-2012, so we're talking about people who are 12-27 years old (which would technically make me Gen Z). I doubt younger Gen Z folk are super familiar with what Buzzfeed was culturally in its heyday, let's say 2012-2019, given how young they were at the time. Also it was mostly a joke at Buzzfeed's expense, not all that serious.
All due respect, this is such a dangerous misreading of public behavior and opinion that it seems based in the most selective out-of-touch leftist interpretations... look, people can misinterpret the point of any given activist performance; but even if thats the case, the activism here was not only just far from possibly effective, its downright 'See how important this issue is? Well im disrupting your shallow comforts for it, therefore its very important' level of naive activism and social disconnect. Naive ideas of radical action are such a staple criticism at this point that feels almost unfair to bring it up, but just the framing here, like you have to call a spade a spade at some point.
What other options do they have? Given that all of the suggestions people give for protests that “make more sense” have been done (& are being done). The problem is that the less disruptive protests tend to be almost completely ignored by the media, that and they often carry such incredibly punitive sentences that it’s really not worth it for how little impact it has. Fact is, Just Stop Oil are *forcing* the media to talk about the climate crisis in a way they otherwise would not have to. To say this is naive activism is to ignore the long history of similar kinds of protest… Just look at suffragette protests, for example
Sounds disingenuous and looks as if you're wearing a mask
24 likes in 2 hours on a video about disruptive protests... kinda makes you think
i think the main issue is that people blur the lines between disruptive and destructive. a protest has to be disruptive for people to listen, with the main example being rosa parks’, who would not have been listened to if she did not disrupt the bus service. destructive protests, for the most part, make people focus more on the destruction as opposed to the protest
What have Just Stop Oil destroyed?
@@SciGuys they haven't destroyed persay, but i know a lot of people (particularly older generations) read or hear the news about just stop oil throwing food on a painting, or paint on stonehenge and they roll their eyes and say 'this is why no one listens to them'. what they're doing isn't disruptive at all imo, throwing food on a painting that a few people are looking at isn't disrupting anything, but getting a road closed for x amount of hours is disruptive and would get the message across much better
They have closed roads… People hate them for that too
I have both of them and it can be hard to live this way at times
Honestly, people misinterpret disruptive lrotest
First

Elon Musk popularised this question? Silly me, I thought it was René Descartes.
I think there are more young people who know about it directly due to Elon Musk rather than from reading Descartes
@@SciGuys I guess that’s fair, I only know Descartes because of years of philosophy in school and let me say, he’s not as much of a genius as people make him out to be. Musk probably makes about as much sense as Descartes (read: none).
Inside of you there are 2 wolves. One wolf has adhd the other wolf is zoneing out..... the other one may have adhd....
I am much older than your demographic. I live in a city in Los Angeles county that is just 5 mi from the ocean, and every afternoon gets a little breeze. When I was young, nobody had air conditioners. Maybe that was because they weren't as popular but whatever. When I was 20, air conditioning was still no problem in my hometown. I moved away and moved back when I was about 30. Still no air conditioning except in businesses. 40 the same. When I turned 50, I started becoming uncomfortable with the weather in summer. I thought maybe it was just my age and hormones, but the thermometer did not agree. For the past 4 years, I have suffered terribly in the summertime with fans all over the house, seriously contemplating air conditioning. I live one mile away from where I grew up, and my mother's house feels stifling in summertime. The breeze still comes every afternoon, but it isn't as effective and I'm telling you you can tell. There is definitely a difference. Everybody has an air conditioner people like me who grew up in older houses even have them now. Older people who can't afford them or the costs associated with them do you die every year in Los Angeles county.it was not my imagination or going through menopause, it's definitely climate change, and it makes me fear for my children's and my children's future faribault in their late twenties, and I am sort of happy that they never had kids, and don't really intend to.. I think I will be gone before it gets really bad, but I fear that their lives will be very difficult 30 years in the future when they are older. I'm too old to be concerned with what might happen in my lifetime, but I'm no psychopath. I care for humans and I don't want any human to suffer. Life is difficult enough these days, and I'm so scared that it's going to be so much more difficult to even survive in the next few decades
You know the old saying: It's hard to get someone to understand something, when their income depends upon them NOT understanding it.

My question is how do I come out to everyone in my family about being transgender
Ethan is sooooo beautiful, I can’t deal
Watching Cory's reactions at times it seems he couldn't either lol
@@N33k5 I don’t blame him, imma need a sci-guys after dark 💀💀
I'm bi but sometimes society gaslights me into thinking I'm not because bisexual invisibility and since I'm pretty fruity "I must be gay"
it stresses me out when ppl say "everyone's a little bi tho" coz then i'm like should i identify as straight then😭
@@planetaryg0don't stress too much mate, it's a generalization and what most peeps mean as that usually even straight or gay people have at least one person of their non preferred gender they'd be into, but it's just a belief and it doesn't invalidate your individual experience in any way
@@planetaryg0Not everyone is a little bi, far from. From most of the studies ever conducted it shows most people are monosexual and from my experience and observations of most people I know and discussed this topic with that seems to be the case. I'm sure if you are only hanging around LGBTQIA+ communities it will seem like there's more than there actually is. I know some people aren't out the closet, but I still don't think it makes up a huge percentage of the population if you included them. There's straight people who have zero attraction for the same sex as there is homosexual people who have zero attraction to the opposite sex and most of the people I've met in life have fallen into these two categories, and I'm not including the people I suspect could be a bit bisexual or at least curious. I understand people who are bisexual feel under represented, but I don't believe in over exaggerating their prevalence and grossly inflating their numbers in order for them to feel accepted. Attraction is the most accurate representation of a person’s true sexual orientation because identity and behavior can be context-dependent. People may change the identity labels they use and who they have sex with but sexual attractions are stable over time. Sexual orientation is a pattern of desire, not of behaviour or sexual acts per se. It is not a simple act of will or a performance. Attraction can be based on a number of factors beyond vaginas and penises, including personality, common interests, and chemistry, and that we may be open to dating someone who has physical attributes, like hair and eye color, that don’t necessarily fit our usual type. But all of these characteristics are subsumed within an individual’s sexual preference for men, women, or both. Many young people are identifying sexuality as part of the community not out of a true sexual identity, but because it is trendy and progressive to do so. I even know a few people who claim to be a bit bisexual simply because they can recognise someone being attractive of the same sex, despite them having zero romantic or sexual attraction to them or any desire to date them...same with a couple of gay men, they claim to be bisexual despite from what I've seen showing zero attraction or interest in females and some change labels depending on who they are talking to at that time. That not bisexual.
Like so many others, this video is a true inspiration, thank you.
Yes I am bisexual
